Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 4:53 PM CDT on April 30, 2017

Expires 11:00 PM EDT on April 30, 2017

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for Bond...
Greene... Fayette... Macoupin... Jersey and Montgomery counties...

At 452 PM CDT, law enforcement and the department of transporation
continued to report flooding across the area. This flooding is the
result of runoff from 3 to 6 inches of rainfall that has fallen
since late Friday. Flooding will continue on area creeks, streams,
poor drainage areas, and roads which are often subject to minor
flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Jerseyville, Vandalia, Greenville, Litchfield, Hillsboro,
Carlinville, Staunton, Virden, Gillespie, White Hall, Nokomis,
Carrollton, Brighton, Girard, Mount Olive, Roodhouse, Bunker Hill,
Benld, St. Elmo and Greenfield.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 in Illinois between exits 36 and 76.
Interstate 55 in Illinois between exits 41 and 63.
Interstate 57 in Illinois near exit 135.

This also includes Ramsey Lake State Park, Beaver Dam State Park,
and Lake Lou Yaeger.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.
