Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 9:24 PM MDT on September 16, 2014

Expires 8:00 PM EDT on September 18, 2014

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday
afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of Southeast Arizona... including the following
areas... Baboquivari Mountains... Catalina and Rincon
Mountains... Chiricahua Mountains... Dragoon and mule and
huachuca and Santa Rita Mountains... eastern Cochise County
below 5000 feet... galiuro and Pinaleno Mountains... tohono
o'odham nation... Tucson Metro area... upper San Pedro River
Valley and upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* periods of showers and occasional thunderstorms are expected
through tonight with localized heavy rainfall possible later
this evening through Wednesday morning. Then... more widespread
heavy rain is likely later Wednesday through early Thursday as
the remnants of Odile moves across the region. This includes the
overnight hours which is not typical. As is normally the case
and expected this time... rainfall amounts will vary widely
across the area and will greatly depend on the exact path of the
storm. The heaviest rainfall amounts are expected to total 3 to
6 inches by late Thursday. Locally higher amounts are
possible... especially in the mountains.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are becoming favorable
for widespread flash flooding to develop. Monitor forecasts
closely and be ready to take quick action if flash flood warnings
are issued.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize
the dangers of flash floods. If flash flooding is observed... act
quickly. Turn around and take another Route.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio... commercial radio or television
stations... or your cable television provider for updates on this
flash flood threat.
