... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 PM Monday to noon MDT
Wednesday above 9000 feet...

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a
Winter Weather Advisory above 9000 feet for snow, which is in
effect from 6 PM Monday to noon MDT Wednesday.

* Locations include... Taylor Park and Trappers Lake.

* Timing... light snow or rain/snow mix will begin Monday
afternoon, changing over to all snow by Monday evening and
picking up in intensity. Snow will continue through late
Wednesday morning with periods of moderate to heavy snow at
times.

* Snow accumulation... 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts
above 10,000 feet.

* Snow level... 8000 to 9000 feet Monday afternoon, lowering to
around 6000 to 7000 feet by Wednesday morning. Snow levels may
rise during the afternoons. Significant snow accumulations will
be mainly above 9000 feet, with lesser amounts below.

* Winds... southwest winds Monday afternoon switching to northwest
by Tuesday morning 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Visibility... lowering to less than 1 mile at times in heavier
snow showers.

* Impacts... high elevation roadways will become slick and
snowpacked. In addition, snow and areas of blowing snow will
reduce visibility.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and/or
blowing snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while
driving.

... Mountain snowfall continues through the week...

Two storm systems will take aim at eastern Utah and western
Colorado this week. The first will arrive Monday evening and
continue through early Wednesday, bringing a period of moderate
snowfall to the mountains with rain showers in the valleys. Snow
levels will drop from 8000 feet Tuesday morning to around 7000
feet by the time precipitation ends on Wednesday morning. 6 to 12
inches of snowfall may fall across the San Juans, central Colorado
mountains, and Flat Tops with locally higher amounts in the
highest elevations.

The second storm system will arrive on Thursday evening and will
last through Saturday. This storm will once again bring a period
of accumulating snowfall to all mountain zones, however there is
still uncertainty regarding snowfall totals at this time.
