The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northwestern Adams County in northeast Colorado...

* until 715 PM MDT

* at 519 PM MDT... a thunderstorm producing heavy rain was located
over east Thornton... or 11 miles north of Denver... moving
southwest at 15 mph. An automated rain gauge in hnederson reported
0.87 inches of rain in 30 minutes.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Thornton... northwestern Commerce City... northeastern Northglenn and
Brighton.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.

north Central Adams County in northeast Colorado...

* until 700 PM MDT

* at 436 PM MDT... a thunderstorm producing heavy rain was located
near Lochbuie... or 23 miles northeast of Denver... and is
stationary. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen in 30
minutes.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Brighton and northern Denver International Airport.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few
inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross

central Denver County in northeast Colorado...
southwestern Adams County in northeast Colorado...

* until 715 PM MDT

* at 419 PM MDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to a nearly
stationary thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small Stream
flooding in the advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has already
fallen. Another one-half inch of rain is possible in this area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
northeastern Denver and northwestern Aurora.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* portions of central Colorado... east central Colorado... north
central Colorado and northeast Colorado... including the
following areas... in central Colorado... Jefferson and west
Douglas counties above 6000 feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast
Park counties below 9000 feet and south and southeast
grand/west central and southwest Boulder/Gilpin/Clear
Creek/Summit/north and West Park counties above 9000 feet. In
east central Colorado... north and northeast Elbert County
below 6000 feet/North Lincoln County and southeast Elbert
County below 6000 feet/South Lincoln County. In north central
Colorado... Larimer County below 6000 feet/northwest Weld
County... Larimer and Boulder counties between 6000 and 9000
feet and south and East Jackson/Larimer/north and northeast
grand/northwest Boulder counties above 9000 feet. In northeast
Colorado... Boulder and Jefferson counties below 6000 feet/west
Broomfield County... central and East Adams and Arapahoe
counties... central and south Weld County... Elbert/central and
East Douglas counties above 6000 feet... Morgan County... north

* From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon

* widespread showers and thunderstorms will produce 1 to 2
inches of rain Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Some
thunderstorms may train or reform over the same areas and
produce several inches of rainfall.

* Flash flooding of low lying areas... creeks and streams will be
possible along with rock and mud slides. If you live in flood
prone areas or will be traveling... stay alert to the weather
and be prepared for rapidly rising water levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
