Flash Flood Warning

Statement as of 9:40 PM CDT on May 26, 2013

Expires 6:00 AM EDT on May 27, 2013

... Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for Stark... northern Peoria
and Marshall counties until 500 am CDT Monday...

At 910 PM CDT... Stark County emergency management reported Route 91
was closed due to flash flooding and Route 78 at West Jersey closed
due to high water. Multiple secondary roads around the County also
reported as flooded. Thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall will
continue across the warned area through the evening with additional
rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches. This will continue to produce a
significant flash flood threat across the area.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Lacon... Bradford... Camp Grove... Castleton... Chillicothe... Elmira...
Elmore... Henry... La Fayette... Laura... Osceola... Princeville...
Sparland... Toluca... Toulon... Varna... Wenona... West Jersey and
Wyoming.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed... act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.

Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 8:18 PM CDT on May 26, 2013

Expires 8:00 PM EDT on May 27, 2013

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Monday evening...

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include a portion of central Illinois...
including the following areas... Marshall... Peoria... Stark...
Tazewell and Woodford.

* Through Monday evening

* heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches will be possible tonight through
Monday... with locally higher amounts in some of the more intense
thunderstorms.

* The ground across much of the area has been saturated with the
previous rainfall over the past 24 hours... especially north and
west of Peoria. This will cause the majority of additional rain
to become runoff... causing ditches to fill and water to cover
low lying roads. Underpasses and poor drainage areas may see
flash flooding develop... particularly in areas of scattered
thunderstorms. Some flooding is expected to develop on area
rivers and streams over the next few days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
