Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 4:57 PM CDT on May 27, 2016

Expires 11:30 AM EDT on May 28, 2016

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 1030 am CDT Saturday for
southwestern Butler... northwestern Cowley... eastern Sedgwick and
northeastern Sumner counties...

At 452 PM CDT... emergency management and trained spotters have
reported multiple impassible roads across east Wichita. In some
locations 3 to 6 inches of water was observed standing over
roadways. Up to two inches of rain has fallen... with an additional
half to one inch possible over the next few hours.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wichita... Derby... Andover... Haysville... Augusta... Park city...
Valley Center... Bel Aire... Mulvane... Rose Hill... Maize... Douglass...
Sedgwick... Belle Plaine... Towanda... Benton... Udall...
downtown Wichita... Kechi and Eastborough.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few
inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

* Soils are already saturated from recent rainfall over the past
several days with additional chances for thunderstorms

ongoing flooding concerns or lead to additional flooding.

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
