Flood Warning

The Flood Warning continues for
the Mississippi River at Red River Landing.
* Until further notice.
* At 7:00 PM Friday the stage was 48.7 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 48.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river is expected to continue rising until cresting
at around 50.0 feet on Saturday may 2nd..
* impact... at 48.0 feet... access roads will be inundated and
evacuation of all river islands must be complete. Protection of
people and property in the river bottom land on the river side of
the levees must be complete.
* Impact... at 46.0 feet... river traffic will become dangerous. A levee
crevasse would flood adjacent farm land. Significant flooding of
Raccourci Island will continue and evacuation of the island is
recommended.
* Impact... at 45.0 feet... between the 40 and 45 foot stage flooding of
Raccourci Island becomes significant. At the 45 foot stage
evacuation of the island is recommended.

* portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi...
including the following areas... in southeast Louisiana...
Ascension... Assumption... East Baton Rouge... East Feliciana...
Iberville... Livingston... lower Jefferson... lower Lafourche...
lower Plaquemines... lower St. Bernard... lower Terrebonne...
northern Tangipahoa... Orleans... Pointe Coupee... southern
Tangipahoa... St. Charles... St. Helena... St. James... St. John
The Baptist... St. Tammany... upper Jefferson... upper
Lafourche... upper Plaquemines... upper St. Bernard... upper
Terrebonne... Washington... West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.
In southern Mississippi... Hancock... Harrison... Jackson and
Pearl River.

* Through Saturday evening

* isolated thunderstorms are possible across the area this
afternoon with locally heavy rainfall possible. A larger area
of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across
southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana late tonight and
during the day on Saturday. This complex of thunderstorms is
expected to be the main threat of heavy rain over the next 24
to 36 hours. Many areas are completely saturated. One to three
inches of rain could fall in heavier storms... with locally
higher amounts.

* Areas that see heavy rainfall within a short time could
receive flood water to depths that would impact property and
people in those areas. Area creeks... streams and rivers are
also likely to experience rises... and some may rise to
bankfull or flood levels over the next several days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rainfall that may lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a
very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
