* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
St. Charles Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
western St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Lafourche Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
central Terrebonne Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
northwestern Plaquemines Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
north central St. John The Baptist Parish in southeastern
Louisiana...
Jefferson Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana...

* until 1115 am CDT

* at 1015 am CDT... Doppler radar indicated a line of severe
thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds in excess of
70 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from 6
miles northeast of LaPlace to 8 miles southeast of Bayou Gauche to
near LaRose to 20 miles west of Dulac... and moving southeast at 45
mph.

* Locations impacted include...
New Orleans... Houma... Galliano... cut off... Belle Chasse...
Timberlane... Port Sulphur... Chalmette... Hahnville... east New
Orleans... Harvey... Avondale... LaRose... Metairie... Marrero...
LaPlace... Jefferson... Gretna... Harahan and Westwego.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the area. Although a tornado is
not immediately likely... if one is spotted... act quickly and move to
a place of safety in a sturdy structure... such as a basement or small
interior room.

These storms have a history of producing wind damage. This is a very
dangerous situation. Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and
stay away from windows.

National Weather Service office in New Orleans.

* a potent upper level storm system will impact the region through
Tuesday acting on an abundance of moisture to produce several
rounds of showers and thunderstorms during the period. General
rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches can be expected through
Tuesday with isolated amounts up to 5 inches possible.
