Statement as of 4:01 AM EST on December 10, 2016

Expires 1:00 AM EST on December 12, 2016

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Sunday morning through late
Sunday night...

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a
Winter Storm Watch, which is in effect from Sunday morning
through late Sunday night.

Hazardous weather...

* a long duration of light to moderate snow will affect the area,
resulting in storm total snowfall of 5 to 9 inches by late
   Sunday night.

* Light snow will begin between 5 am and 9 am. The highest
intensity snow is expected Sunday afternoon and evening. The
moisture content of the snow will also increase during the
course of the afternoon and evening.

* There is still uncertainty in the intensity of this storm
system as it moves into the region. This will have a large
   impact on storm total snowfall.

Impacts...

* roads will likely become snow covered and slick, impacting
   travel across the area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor
the latest forecasts.

... Cautious travel is advised for brief intense snowfall and rapid
reductions of visibility this afternoon...

Weather...

* isolated snow squalls will continue to track along a corridor
   between M-59 and I-69 through 330 PM.

* These squalls will result a quick accumulation of
snowfall... locally upwards of a half an inch.

* Rapid reductions in visibility... dropping to one quarter of a
   mile at times.

* Air temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees.

Impacts...

* bursts of heavier lake effect snow will cause reductions of
visibility to less than one mile. There may be rapid
   fluctuations of visibility.

* Accumulating snow may lead to slippery roads particularly on
   bridges... exit ramps... and overpasses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* the combination of moderate snow and strong winds will result
in localized whiteout conditions. Reduced visibilities along
with snow covered and slippery roads will cause variable
traffic rates throughout the County. Motorists are urged to
use caution and account for the variable driving conditions
   by allowing extra time.

* Prepare... plan... and stay informed.
