... Forecast flooding increased from minor to moderate severity...
the Flood Warning continues for
the little Platte River at Smithville.

* From this evening to late Friday night.
* At 6:30 PM Thursday the stage was 28.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 27.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 31.9 feet by this
evening. The river will fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* At 30.5 feet... bridge street, Main Street, State Route dd, and
State Route f begin to flood.

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for
southern Leavenworth... Wyandotte... northern Johnson... western
Lafayette... Daviess... ray... southeastern Platte... Jackson... Caldwell
and Clay counties...

At 557 PM CDT... gauge reports indicated thunderstorms were producing
heavy rain over the warned area with nearly 4 inches of rain
reported near the Kansas City International Airport, and widespread
reports of more than 3 inches across southern Platte County. This
has lead Ferrelview Village officials to evacuate some apartments
due to the high water. Flash flooding is expected to continue.

Leawood... Raytown... Liberty... Gladstone... Grandview...
Prairie Village... Grain Valley... Excelsior Springs... Merriam...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and
underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

At 548 PM CDT... gauge reports indicated that heavy rain had fallen
over the warned area with totals nearing 4 inches around the Kansas
City International Airport, and widespread reports of 3 inches
across southern Platte County. Flash flooding is already occurring.

* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Sunday morning and
continue to rise to near 20.1 feet by Sunday morning. The river
will fall below flood stage by late Sunday morning.
* At 20.0 feet... cropland near State Highway 92 near Platte City
begins to flood.

* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Saturday afternoon and
continue to rise to near 26.3 feet by early Sunday morning. The
river will fall below flood stage by late Sunday morning.
* At 26.0 feet... low-lying rural land along the river begins to
flood.

* several rounds of thunderstorms are expected across eastern Kansas
