Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 3:52 AM CDT on August 27, 2014

Expires 11:00 AM EDT on August 28, 2014

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through Thursday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of central Nebraska... east central Nebraska and south
central Nebraska... including the following areas... in central
Nebraska... Greeley... Howard... Merrick... Nance... Sherman and
valley. In east central Nebraska... Polk and York. In south
central Nebraska... Adams... Clay... Hall and Hamilton.

* Until 10 am CDT Thursday morning.

* Although parts of the watch area have yet to observe rainfall
early this morning... a band of steady rain is expected to
overspread the area during the next several hours... with
additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected again
tonight into Thursday morning.

* Given that some storms could produce heavy rain in excess of 1
to 2 inches in a short time falling on already saturated
ground... the threat for localized flash flooding
continues... especially in low-lying areas and along streams.
That being said... rainfall amounts will likely vary considerably
within the watch area... and not all places will actually observe
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
