The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
De Baca County in east central New Mexico...
Guadalupe County in east central New Mexico...
west central Curry County in east central New Mexico...
southwestern Quay County in east central New Mexico...
northwestern Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico...

* until 645 am MDT

* at 442 am MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain due to slow-moving thunderstorms. Estimated amounts of
one to three inches of rain have already fallen over the advisory
area... and this will continue to create excessive runoff and
standing water. Expect fast flowing water and some flooding in
creeks such as Alamogordo... Alamosa... Truchas... and sand
creeks feeding into the Pecos River.

* Locations impacted include...
Tucumcari... Santa Rosa... Fort Sumner... Vaughn... Quay... house...
Cuervo... Pastura... Yeso and Montoya.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 40 between mile markers 252 and 343.
Highway 285 between mile markers 184 and 204.

Other locations affected include power Dam Lake and Fort Sumner State
Monument.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to tell how much
water is on the Road... do not drive through fast moving water of
unknown depth.

Highlands... Guadalupe County... Harding County... Jemez Mountains...
lower Chama River Valley... middle Rio Grande Valley/Albuquerque
Metro area... northeast Highlands... northern Sangre de Cristos
above 9500 feet/Red River... northwest Highlands... northwest
plateau... Quay County... Raton ridge/Johnson Mesa... Roosevelt
County... San Juan Mountains... Sandia/Manzano Mountains... Santa
Fe Metro area... southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet...
Union County... upper Rio Grande Valley... west Central Highlands...

Mountains.

* Through late tonight

* a very moist subtropical air mass continues to remain in place
over much of New Mexico... and many areas have already observed
moderate to locally heavy rainfall. This will escalate the
threat for flash flooding today and tonight as repeated bursts
of shower and thunderstorm activity redevelop with the potential
for additional periods of heavy rainfall. Rainfall rates will
commonly approach 1 to 3 inches per hour with some heavier
downpours possible in localized areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
