Coastal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Watch

Statement as of 2:22 PM PST on December 21, 2014

Expires 7:00 PM EST on December 22, 2014

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM PST this
afternoon for the north and central Oregon coast and South
Washington coast...
... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 10 am to 4 PM PST
Monday for the north and central Oregon coast and South
Washington coast...

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a coastal
Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 10 am to 4 PM PST
Monday. A coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM PST
this afternoon.

* Tides: the observed high tide this morning was observed around
11 ft at Toke Point and South Beach... and 11.5 ft at Astoria
with tidal anomalies of around 1.5 ft. The high tide tomorrow
afternoon around 1 PM is expected to be of a similar magnitude.

* River flows: flow on the coastal rivers remains high as a result
of abundant rainfall recieved yesterday. While flows will be
decreasing in the next 24 hours... they will remain high enough
for the midday high tide tomorrow to contribute to minor tidal
overflow.

* Timing: any minor tidal overflow will likely ease by 3 or 4 PM
Sunday as the tide continues to move out. However... minor tidal
overflow can again be expected during the high tide around 1 PM
Monday with impacts likely occuring between 10 am and 4 PM.

* Impacts: affected locations will include low lying areas near
bays and sloughs... Highway 101... and the lower reaches of
coastal rivers. Low lying areas near the city of Astoria... near
Highway 101 in Tillamook... and Highway 126 east of Florence were
impacted today and may also see minor tidal overflow on Monday.
These impacts should ease as the tide moves out again Monday
afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
