Special Statement

Statement as of 2:25 PM CDT on September 23, 2017

Expires 8:00 AM EDT on September 24, 2017

... Chances for heavy rain and the risk for flooding will increase
across northwest Texas tonight, Sunday and into early next week...

A large upper level storm will gradually approach the region from
the west over the next few days. As it does so it will draw
considerable amounts of moisture into the Southern Plains, setting
the stage for periods of moderate to heavy rain and potential
flooding.

A risk for flooding and flash flooding will occur overnight across
the western South Plains and southwest Texas Panhandle - and a
Flash Flood Watch is in effect for this area. More widespread
showers and thunderstorms will then expand across the Texas
Panhandle, South Plains and rolling plains Sunday and persist into
Monday and perhaps Tuesday.

Over the course of the next few days rainfall totals of 1 to 3
inches are expected to be common, with localized amounts of 3 to
5 plus inches. Where the heaviest rain falls, which is currently
somewhat uncertain, areas of flooding and flash flooding may
develop.

Be prepared for potential flooding over the next few days and stay
abreast of the latest forecasts and be alert for possible flood-
related watches and warnings.
