* Flood Warning for...
Bailey County in northwest Texas...
Floyd County in northwest Texas...
Hale County in northwest Texas...
Lamb County in northwest Texas...
northern Crosby County in northwest Texas...
southern Motley County in northwest Texas...
southwestern Parmer County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* until 1230 PM CDT

* at 1024 am CDT... the Texas Department of Transportation reported
many flooded roads across the northern and western part of the
Texas South Plains. Doppler radar indicated rainfall continuing
though rainfall rates were slowly decreasing. Total rainfall so
far has been estimated between 2 to 4 inches over a very large
area. Flooded roads and areas of standing water are likely to be
encountered until midday in this area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur
in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges... dips...
or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream... even a
small one... on foot or in a vehicle.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northwest Texas and the Panhandle of Texas...
including the following areas... in northwest Texas... Bailey...
Cochran... Crosby... Floyd... Garza... Hale... Hockley... Lamb...
Lubbock... Lynn... Terry and Yoakum. In the Panhandle of Texas...
Briscoe... Castro... Parmer and Swisher.

* Through Friday evening. The watch may be expanded further
eastward and extended in time as details of the impending rain
event becomes more clear.

* The remnants of tropical cyclone Odile... currently over moving
into southwest New Mexico... are expected to slowly move toward
West Texas over the next few days. While this occurs there exist
the opportunity for periods of widespread heavy rainfall. Rain
amounts of 1 to 4 inches will be common with locally higher
accumulations likely.

* Areal flooding will be possible in poor drainage areas...
including low lying roadways in urban areas... near Playa
Lakes..and along creeks and draws. Additionally... pockets of
flash flooding also possible where the heaviest rains fall... as
well as locations most prone to flash flooding... including along
the edge of The Caprock Escarpment.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Kent County in northwest Texas...
western Stonewall County in northwest Texas...

* until noon CDT

* at 903 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the advisory area. Doppler
radar estimated instantaneous rainfall rates greater than 5 inches
per hour in a few areas... with general rainfall of 1 to 2 inches
likely late this morning.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams and near low water crossings.
Some locations that will experience minor flooding include...
Crosbyton... Jayton... Post... Slaton... Tahoka... Clairemont...
Girard... Graham... grassland... Idalou... Justiceburg... Kalgary...
Lake Alan Henry... Lorenzo... O'Donnell... Peacock... Ralls... Ransom

Most deaths in flash flooding occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to
